Re: Yellow
A letter for a friend. Writing prompt: yellow. Typed out below.
Dearest Claire Bear!
(febbraio) February 1
I am writing to you in Italy!! I am sitting outside in the Villa Rossa in the Piazza Savonarola and I am so very happy that I think I could die right now with perfect peace.
Yellow has turned out to be a very full writing prompt here! The Italian sun has been very prominent—a very significant win for me—and yellow buildings line all the streets. The pastries in the windows, the statues with the newest plaques, the letters on restaurant menus—all very golden and shiny and new. I am interested to see how long I will feel this good. I’m so happy, it almost feels unfair. I hope everyone gets to experience feeling like this sometimes! A man earlier today stopped me on the street when he overheard me say “grazie mille” and told me about how, historically, people used to use the words interchangeably. Of course, he also said it entirely in Italian. He was very old! I tried to tell him I thought what he was saying was very cool, but I was not good at Italian. I don’t know if he understood me. Probably not. But all this is just to say that even the locals here seem to be tinted golden to me! If smiling was a color, I like to think it would be yellow, too.
I hope that Copenhagen has been treating you well too! I hope that the people are kind and that your classes are interesting and that life is also very yellow for you! I’m sorry that this letter is on very bad scrap paper. It’s all I really have right now in terms of loose paper. I have a notebook but the paper is binded. I do not love you enough to ruin my paper binding. That being said, I do love you very much. And I’m really looking forward to receiving your letter back!!
Buonagiornata!
Buon fortuna!
Salute!
Sophia Perida :)
P.S. Just saw your message that there is no Kraft Mac & Cheese in Denmark. (Also yellow.) Sucks to suck.
P.S.S. I’ve just learned that the Italian postal system is famously slow. Molto male for us.
